Meditation helps us regulate our thoughts and emotions.
I meditate. 20 minutes a day, everyday. I sit quietly, open my meditation application on my phone, and select the Om background sound. Om is an age old sound that helps center the mind. Through the vibrations and tone of Om, I can let my thoughts go. It’s such a relief to not be a prisoner to my thoughts. To have freedom from my ego and the constant chatter of my mind is a real relief. Sometimes I will have a sticky thought or thoughts, then I focus on my breathing or Om and the thoughts slide away.
The best benefit of a meditation practice is that is carries with you all day. If I get caught up in my thinking or emotions, I can quiet, breathe, Om, and be still. The storm will pass.
Today was special. As I was in meditation, pondering the Om, my cat Simba, curled up next to me and started to purr. The serenity of Om mixed with the love from Simba makes the whole journey complete.
